In For A Swim On A Cold Winter's Day
By - Rant-O-Rama
Its warmer in the water than out
water transfers heat 24 times quicker than air.
so if both water and air is same temp, water will cool you much quicker than air
Yeah but it's warmer in the water than out
False. Black Bear
I watched an old bloke swimming on that bitterly cold day earlier this week down at Congwong beach at La Perouse. That is hard arse exercise.
I was walking with 3 layers and I was damned cold. I can't imagine the cold exiting the water with that brisk breeze blowing.
I am a polar bear and it is honestly the best feeling in the world. Getting warm after a swim in really cold water is like crack to me. A bonus is that you usually get to exercise alone or with very few other people around.
I'm 100% opposite. I hate the cold and kind of envy those that thrive in it. I'm quite at home in 35'c.
The water was crystal clear as it can be in winter and he was completely alone as you suggest. It probably felt like getting into a luke warm bath considering the air temp and wind chill.
I've just been wearing my usual thin thermal undies, long pants, and a flannel shirt, but my neck has been unusually cool these last few days.
Finally a reason to use [these](https://imgur.com/56pEq0x) (49" x 49" shemagh) that I bought last year. I roll one up and loosely place around my neck and tuck into my shirt, kind of like a cravat.
Must be from the Northern centrals or southern Tablelands. Always was great to be the only one in the beach in winter because it was warmer
If it’s Terrigle it’s probably my brother.
....ohh you’re terrigle Muriel!!!
It’s North Bondi
I live near the water and loads of elderly people swim in the bitterly cold winters. I always shudder when I see them doing laps in the baths. Brr. Fuck that.
Great for the soul!
Great picture! The proportions of the coloured layers are pleasing to me.
You crazy person, no way i would go for a swim in this kind of weather.
That's not a cold winters day/= #june212021
Glad I’m not working every day in the ocean here anymore. First time in 5 years. Doesn’t matter how many wetsuits you have on. Your entire soul becomes numb
Looks like north curl curl?
North Bondi …but it’s not so obvious…
Ah yeah. Amazing how similar the view is from both.
Damn, Curly was my guess
There's always one, isn't there.
I do enjoy the Sydney Beaches in Winter just to mainly take a walk along the shoreline barefoot, I have gone swimming in mid July but not so much anymore
I am getting cold just looking at this.
